when tears invade: cling to the Word

I lay still in the dark.  The emptiness is vast beside me.  Again, sleep won’t come and my mind wanders.  Fear threatens to take hold.  I reach for the truth.  But the words aren’t there.  I can remember John 3:16 and a few other token verses, but the truth that I NEED doesn’t come.  I open the Bible and press in.  Tears flow as my God talks to me in the darkness.  Night after night we meet here.  I become so hungry to hear from HIM.

He holds me.  Carries me.  Loves me.  Sings over me.  Protects me.  Sustains me.

HIS words breathe hope into my despair.  Truth into the lies.  I listen and linger here.  He has so much to say.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow…  Hebrews 4:12

Friend, dig deep.  The Lord has something to say!

Whether you are new to Bible study or just need a change, here are a few of my favorite things:

~Do Not Depart is a fantastic website with tools for Bible study

~Savoring Living Water: How to Have an Effective Quiet Time is a book that was written by a sweet friend.  It’s a wonderful resource no matter where you are in your walk.

~Mom’s tool box is another great site.  This page describes the SOAP Bible study method, but the site also includes lots of different Bible Study plans.

  1. Would you share what scriptures he used to:  “He holds me.  Carries me.  Loves me.  Sings over me.  Protects me.  Sustains me.” ?? Or is it different every night?  I’d love to hear you expound on this post.

    • Thanks for your suggestion.  I do have plans to share some of my favorite verses in the very near future.  It does vary depending on what particular issues I might be battling.

  2. As I read this, I immediately thought of Psalm 91. The entire passage is a great reminder of the security we can have in Him when we simply trust in Him.

  3. HIS words breathe hope into my despair.  Truth into the lies.  I listen and linger here.  He has so much to say.
Listen and linger, that is what it is all about!  Spending the time and energy to pursue, dig deeper ourselves, not expecting it to be done for us. God loves us and knows our every need.  He knows exactly where we are, He will meet us there, and take us to places we’ve never dreamed of.  Trust that the Holy Spirit will speak through God’s Word to you, individually .  His words “are new every morning.  Great is His faithfulness.”
