making valentine’s meaningful for your kids

So far in our quest toward a meaningful Valentine’s Day, we have talked about making a fun dinner and  handmade valentines.  Today, I am challenged to consider ways that will help my children to feel loved both by me and their heavenly Father.

A reminder~

I adapted an idea that I saw on pintrest with these hearts.  I wrote phrases to my kids from God.   Every time they look in the mirror, they are reminded of how God sees them.

Here are the phrases that I used:

Your name is written on his hand.  Is 49:16
You are a divine work of art.  Psalm 139:13
He cares about you.  1 Peter 5:7
You are delightful.  Ps 147:11
He sings and rejoices over you.  Zeph 3:17
You are forgiven.  Ps 130:3-4
You are loved.  1 John 4:16
You are chosen.  1 Peter 2:9
He knows your heart.  1 Sam16:7
You are strong.  Phil 4:13
You are beautiful.  Song of Solomon 2:10
You are His friend.  John 15:15
You are a light to the world.  Matt 5:14
You are His child.  I John 3:1
You are a winner.  Romans 8:37
You are never alone. John 14:16

A Gift~

God Thinks You are Wonderful

A sweet friend gave us this book years ago.  Each page is full of simple little sayings about how God feels about you.  A few of my favorites:

“If he had a wallet, your photo would be in it.”
“If he had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.”
“If he drove a car, your name would be on the bumper”
“Face it friend, he’s crazy about you.”

The book would make an excellent Valentine’s gift!

A card~

This year what I want most is for my kids to see that they are God’s valentine.  That He loves them more than they could ever think or imagine.  That even when life is hard and tears flow, they are held by their Father.

This is the poem that I will write in their card this year.

You are God’s masterpiece-
started in His heart, formed by His hands,
and offered as a gift to the world.
Much more than a work in progress…
you’re His good work.
What He started in you
will gloriously unfold for a lifetime
and be completed in heaven.
He sees beauty in you
because you’re made in His image
and redeemed by His love.
It’s true.
God says you are…
created, chosen, cherished, celebrated
His forever.
