best art and music apps for kids

Often times in a busy homeschool, the extras don’t find their way into the curriculum. At least, that’s how  it turns out at our house. I have the best intentions to break out my Vivaldi CD, but it just doesn’t happen. Those math and reading lessons always get in the way. I love that technology can help make up for this gap. While I don’t think either subject is essential, both are fun and rewarding topics.

So, today, I am sharing the Best Art and Music Apps for Kids.

Best Art Apps

Etch A Sketch HD (ipad)

A blast from the past, this app is such a cool idea. Kids can draw with their fingers or go traditional and use the knobs. There are also settings to save your drawings or send them to friends.

$2.99

Spin Art (ipod,ipad)

Award winning, this app claims to be the only app that you would want to be stranded on a desert island with. I’m not sure that I’d go that far, but it is pretty fun! With 54 colors, glitter, and various canvas choices, it will surely take a while to get bored.

$0.99

Lego App4+ (ipod and ipad)

Construction is art right? I’m guess an architect would think so. Even if they don’t, my son thinks it should count!  This game is fun, as you build and car and then drive it to unlock more car pieces.

FREE

Kids Mosaic HD (ipod,ipad)

In this app, kiddos get 2-for-1, art and math. Mosaics are great for spacial reasoning skills, yet kids rarely know they are learning! Students can start with a template or make up their own pictures.

$2.99

Coloring Smart (ipod and ipad)

Another 2-for-1 app! Color by number has gone digital. My kids love this app, as it entertains for quite sometime. It has 36 cards in different levels of difficulty: number recognition, shape recognition, and  computation.

$2.99

Best Music Apps

Musical me! (ipad,ipod)

2011 Parent’s Choice Award winner, this app teaches children about notes, music, rhythm, and instruments. But the kids have no idea. To them, it’s just fun. Students can even write their own music by moving notes on the staff.

$1.99

My Musical Friends (iPad)

My kids love this game. Pick a family and then an instrument and play away. You can hear the instruments play or learn facts about them.

FREE

My First Classical Music App (iPad)

Completely interactive tour of the orchestra, we might have save the best for last. There is so much to do here, that it earns it’s high price tag. Learn about composers and learn hear over 40 pieces of the best classical music out there.
