Best Geography Apps For Kids

If you are new here, check out my Best Apps series Intro, Best Bible AppsBest Science Apps. and Best Music and Art Apps. Also, don’t forget to subscribe below, so you won’t miss tomorrow’s post.

So far this week, I have been rather fond of the subject matter. I love the Bible and science has always gotten this biology major excited. Plus I’ve played the flute for years. But today… I can’t speak as fondly of the topic. In fact, ever since my 7th grade geography teacher, bless her soul, I have been hopelessly lost in this subject. I like to blame it on the fact that I had scarcely been out of the state of Florida before age 18, but the truth is, I just never learned to enjoy it. Maybe these apps will spark a new love?

 Best Geography Apps for kids…

Barefoot World Atlas (ipad)

Oh, this app is so awesome! Kids (and moms) can fly around the globe stopping in on various countries or regions. A beautiful info section for each country tells of the people, culture, and other pertinent facts. It comes with a hefty price tag, but trust me, it’s worth every penny. You’d pay more than that for a paper atlas with far less information.

$7.99

Stack the Countries (iPod, iPad)

This apps’ original version was one of the first apps we ever purchased (Stack the States). We were thrilled when they made an app for the countries. Kids play to fill up each continent, all the while learning the names and shapes of the countries.

$1.99

Kids Maps- Map Puzzle Game (iPad)

I love that this app helps children identify the location of the states. I wish I had found this last year when we were studying US geography. I guess we will save it for next time! Meanwhile, never hurts to practice.

$2.99

Ansel & Clair’s Adventures in Africa (ipad)

With this award winning app, children can explore the Nile Valley, Sahara Desert & Serengeti Plains with adorable characters. They learn features and facts about the land and the animals. The photography is beautiful!

$1.99

  1. I’d like to add one to the list, our just-released geography app for young kids, “Geo Challenge! World Map and Flag Master” This is a great additional to your child’s educational apps. Not only does it include flash cards to aid memorization, but our Spinning Globe feature also allows kids to freely explore countries around the world and their rich cultures.
