my weight,girdles and prayer

Today we are blessed to have Beverly Weeks from Intentionally Yours as our guest. She is a sweet friend and I would love for you to help her feel right at home!

SO I weighed in today. I don’t know about you, but before I step onto those scales, I like to remove my shoes, my socks, my jewelry, just about everything so that number can register at its lowest. I even take into consideration the ounces. After a week of walking and sweating every day, drinking large amounts of water and giving up bread & honey butter, I ended up this week two pounds HEAVIER! Ughhh! Sometimes it can be so frustrating trying to lose weight. In all honesty, those weeks when you see no results, we feel like “throwing in the towel.” Wow, if I wanted to gain weight, I would just stick with my peanut M&M’s, alfredo sauce, Bugles and mint stuffed Oreos.

Then I tried on a dress that was feeling a little snug in the waist even a week ago and it felt a little smoother gliding on. How can this be? The scales show otherwise. Well, it sure wasn’t because I had put on a girdle. Those things just don’t like me! I get visions of me passing out or even dying from wearing one of those….. (how can I say this nicely), tightly constrained undergarments. Could you imagine if that really happened what they would say at my funeral? My neighbor is a funeral home director and I can hear him giggling now. “ God bless her, that poor thing she didn’t have a chance, she was smothered to death, killed by a girdle!!” There goes my vivid imagination again.

You know, in reality maybe my dress felt a little smoother because I had lost a couple of inches. Could it be the lifestyle changes I am making are really working even though I haven’t seen immediate results with the numbers on my scales? Being candid, this kind of reminds me of my prayer life sometimes. Do you ever want to throw up your hands when you are seeing no results and say “What’s going on God?” “Hello, help me out here!” Maybe you have found yourself like me panicking over a situation not fully trusting God. Maybe it’s a conflict with your marriage, finances, a child, your job or even healing that you have been praying for. Friend do not give up for the God you serve has not forgotten you. He is working behind the scenes, even when you are not seeing immediate results. One day while reading, God showed me this promise and I am going to stand on it & I am placing my every ounce of weight ( all one hundred plus pounds) on this promise.

“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. You need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14

Well glory, sometimes you just need to stay calm. God says just pray, trust him and he has the rest under his control!

  1. Remember when you first start exercising you will build some muscle before you lose some fat. Your weight WILL probably go up at first. You are right on about the clothes fitting better! Just use the scale as one indicator of your progress. Put more emphasis on how you feel and how the clothes fit! I recently lost about 20 lbs after gaining weight from inactivity resulting from a injury. The scale didn’t budge for about 4 weeks when I was able to start exercising again.
