What do you call a bear with no teeth? (A gummy bear!)
I think it’s fair to say that our family loves comedy. Most weeks, the kids are telling jokes nearly every time we are together–at the dinner table, in the car, even during school time. We enjoy the jokes on the back of the Chick-fil-A bag even though we have heard the same ones many times, as well as the jokes from our newest joke book. We even make up a few of our own jokes.
It’s not at all uncommon to hear a good knock knock joke echoing from the backseat. Like, say, this one:
Little Old Lady
Little old lady who?
I didn’t know you could yodel!
Naturally, I thought a comedy family fun night would be in order. Why not provide an even better opportunity to do something your kids love all while fostering a sense of family unity? It’s a win win.
Comedy Night Family Fun Night
Fooled Ya Dinner
Start the night off right with an unexpected twist. Serve hamburger cupcakes with cookie fries or a meatloaf cake. I love this Fools Cafe idea and this Silly Supper idea. Need other ideas? Search Pinterest for April Fool’s Day dinners.
Open Mic Joke Time
Once dinner is over and you’ve enjoyed a nice round of laughs, it’s time for open mic night. We simply set up our living room so that all seating faces a central “stage” area. If you have an elevated box that can serve as a stage, even better. But it’s not necessary. Sometimes we even use something as simple as a couch cushion or a flattened box.
My kids like to be prepared for this and enjoy spending the week researching and digging around for the best jokes. But you could also use our free printable. Either way, your whole family will be rolling on the floor as each member has a chance to work the crowd with their hilarious jokes. (By the way, if you have one child who isn’t interested in being funny–that’s ok. They can serve as an audience member. I’d rather have fun than cause anxiety for one of my kids!)
Silly Face Making Contest
We like to play this in rounds. First up, two family members go head-to-head displaying their silliest face on the count of 3. The other members vote on which was the silliest. The winner contends with another family member until he has lost his reign as silliest face maker.
If you prefer to eliminate the competition, simply have everyone in the family make a silly face at the same time. Snap a few family selfies to preserve the memory!
Another fun twist would be to download and print photo booth props and take funny pictures in your own family “photo booth.”
Happy laughing… It’s going to be a hysterical night!
