Easy Easter egg hunt ideas for the whole family

Easy Easter egg hunt ideas for the whole family! Make some fun memories with these egg hunts—sure to make kids of all ages smile!

I’m always looking for frugal and fun themes for our family nights. With a bag of plastic Easter eggs coming in under $2, they make a perfect focal point for our family fun night! (Not to mention, you probably already have some plastic eggs in your holiday bin!) I added in a few other things that I had around the house for a super fun seasonal celebration.

6 Easy Easter egg hunt ideas for the whole family

Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

This family fun night with Easter eggs takes a little prep work, but it will be worth it. I decided to prep a different basket for each hunt. That way, I could grab it when ready. I had the kids go into a room each time I hid the eggs in another room.

The Noisemaker Egg Hunt... sweet, educational, and of course, fun! FREE Printable.

Egg Hunt #1: The Noisemaker

Materials:

  • The Noisemaker printable (at bottom of this post)
  • Plastic eggs
  • Noisemakers such as: rice, beans, paper clips, pasta, corn kernels, M&M’s, etc.

How to play:

I hid 6 eggs per child (that’s 24 for my family). Once the kids found the eggs, they ran back to the table and began shaking them to figure out what was inside. They recorded each guess on their paper and then waited for everyone to finish. Once they were all done, we opened the eggs to see if our predictions were correct. And of course, we ate the M&M’s out of that egg.

Egg Hunt #2: The Nightlight. Glowing fun for all ages!

Egg Hunt #2: The Nightlight

Materials:

  • Plastic eggs
  • Glowsticks

How to Play:

The game is simple. I placed glowsticks inside each egg and hid them in our backyard. The kids couldn’t believe that I was sending them outside in the dark to hunt for eggs. It was so fun that they wanted to take turns hiding them for each other before moving on to the next game.

Egg Hunt #3: The Puzzlemaker. One of 6 different egg hunts for your next family fun night.

Egg Hunt #3: The Puzzlemaker

Materials:

  • A simple and small puzzle
  • Plastic eggs

How to Play:

Put the puzzle pieces for the entire puzzle inside your eggs. Make sure you count so you know when they are all found. Next, hide the eggs and let the kids find them. Once they have found the eggs, run to the table and put the puzzle together. Or, mix it up and start trying to put the puzzle together each time you find a new egg.

Egg Hunt #4: Guess-timator. A fun and educational egg hunt for your next family fun night!

Egg Hunt #4: The Guess-timator

Materials:

  • A bag of jellybeans
  • The Guess-timator printable (at bottom of this post)
  • Plastic eggs

How to Play:

Fill the eggs with varying amounts of jellybeans. For simplicity’s sake, I color-coded it. For example, the blue eggs had 4 jellybeans. The pink eggs had 10 jellybeans, etc. Each child was instructed to find 5 eggs that were different colors. Once they had all 5 eggs, they ran back to the table and tried to put them in order of greatest to least jellybeans simply by shaking to see how many jellybeans were inside. No peeking allowed!

Egg Hunt #5: Scrambled Eggs. One of 6 super fun ideas for family fun night egg hunts.

Egg Hunt #5: Scrambled Eggs

Materials:

  • plastic eggs

How to Play:

This Easter egg hunt idea is super simple but tons of fun. I mismatched 24 eggs (12 for each team) by connecting the wrong colors to each other. Then I hid them around the house. Each team had to find 12 eggs, run to the table, unscramble them, and then put them back in the basket.

Egg hunt #6: The Chocolate Surprise. A sweet ending to your next family fun night!

Egg Hunt #6: The Chocolate Surprise

Materials:

  • Chocolate eggs (I bought small ones and then one each of the large Cadbury creme eggs.)

How to Play:

I simply hid the eggs all over the house, making sure to count how many I hid. Then I sent the kids to find them. Once we had them all, we practiced some division, and of course, we had a sweet treat!

More Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

If those egg hunt ideas aren’t enough to keep your family occupied, check out these other Easter egg hunt ideas found on the internet:

  • Golden ticket egg hunt: only one egg has the “golden ticket”
  • Relay race egg hunt: divide into two teams; one person from each team finds an egg then tags the next person until all eggs are found
  • Scavenger egg hunt: put a clue in each egg that will lead to the next egg
  • Balloon-marked egg hunt: (perfect for preschoolers) tie a helium-filled balloon to each egg to make them easy to find

A Few Games

If you want to extend the festivities, here are a few fun games for those plastic eggs. It’s helpful to put something in the eggs to weigh them down for the games. Of course, we used a little candy.

  • egg toss: toss eggs into baskets
  • egg roll: with your nose, see who can get to the finish line first
  • egg and spoon race: traditional, but so much fun
  • egg pass: put it under your chin and pass it without dropping it down the line. Time your whole family and try and beat your time.
  • hot boiled egg: just like “hot potato” but egg-style!

You totally get the cool mom of the year award!

Last week was spring break on campus so I didn’t have to work Friday night…. our “family fun night” consisted of serial watching “Once Upon a Time” on Netflix in three different rooms because we were at different places! Lol, I commented on that and we all had a great laugh and then threatened each other with spoilers. 🙂 We stayed up until 1am, ate tons of popcorn and junk food and enjoyed every second of our fantasy alternate reality….they’ll have hilarious memories of hallway meetings and saying,”Can you believe….?” And then someone else saying, “Just wait ’till you get to season x, episode y!”

You make me laugh, dear friend. 🙂 Maybe you can have an egg hunt during commercial breaks next week?

One caution: don’t hide chocolate eggs on sunny windows. Melted chocolate running down the glass is not much fun to clean up.

Here’s What Others Are Saying about Not Consumed

Brings courage to my heart!

I want to thank you for your transparency and dedication to blessing families with resources. Thank you for the life giving words that I read over and over. I cling to the hope I see in your story. Not only did you help me work through things that had happened, you prepared me for a situation that could have consumed me. God used your encouragement to strengthen me. I was so beaten down, discouraged, and tired from the long and difficult path I had been walking. It was a refreshing rain in the middle of a weary road, and it made me hope for a future that is victorious.

Like Being With a Girlfriend

Thanks for sharing a piece of your family. Your blog is, honestly, the only one I have ever subscribed to. I feel like I'm on the phone with a girlfriend every time I read your words. I love it! I often find myself spending hours clicking from one post to the next telling myself, "okay, one more and then go to bed!" It's all just so helpful!

Love everything you do!

As far as the other things, I LOVE my brothers keeper and we've done it twice over the past year or two. I recommend it all the time on so many groups online. I type notconsumed.com almost daily somewhere on something. At times I will come across another resource you have created and it's like you are in my head. So much of what you create is exactly what I want but am not techy enough to do! I had googled a checklist for homeschooling recently and yours popped up. It was exactly the simple thing I wanted. I told my husband that you "get me" when I found it. :) I ended up buying it then hearing about the course and did that too. Even as a veteran homeschool mom I learned a few things from your course. I really love how you foster independence in your kids in stages. Again, exactly what I want to do!

Bible Studies are Incredible!

I just ordered and am in the process of printing out so many of your amazing resources and I can't wait to get started! Your bible studies are incredible and so thoughtful, your planner is wonderfully laid out and your breakfast and lunch stations will save me so much time!! I don't know how you do it all, but I'm thankful you do!

Monthly Scripture Pages

Thank you for creating the monthly Scripture pages... especially the KJV one! It's the only Bible I use and hardly any bloggers use it on their stuff. I also really appreciate the products that you provide. I really appreciate the insights, laughter, and thoughtfulness put into your blog, emails, Facebook posts, etc.

Lasting Impression on My Entire Family

I wanted to write to encourage you and say, "THANK YOU!" I've been following your blog for years, and you have made such a lasting impression on my entire family. We've purchased many of your Bible Studies and a few other wonderful homeschooling resources, all of which we absolutely love!!! Still, I believe the greatest compliment I can give you is that because of your Bible Studies that my children and I have completed together, my oldest daughter has been so inspired, she's started creating her own daily devotionals, modeled after the ones you've made. They are absolutely precious (in her own little 12-year old way), and she prints one off each morning for our entire family to complete during our quiet time. When she finishes her first "study" (which is on the Fruits of the Spirit by the way), she plans to print a set to hand out to her small group at church. To see my daughter take ownership of her faith in this way and to bless others with a deeper study of God's Word is a precious gift to me, and I can't thank you enough for your inspiration and positive influence!

Life-giving Words

What an encouragement your words have been to me! The practical tips and realistic systems that you share are so super helpful, but what I have appreciated the most has been your genuine heart for the Lord and for the things of the Lord. What I sense through your words is a heart submitted to the Lord, clinging to Him instead of to bitterness. Walking a path that you never signed up for, painfully aware of your brokenness and inadequacies, but keeping your eyes focused on the only Giver of Life. You have a testimony of victory, of overcoming, Kim. Your life-giving words boast of the faithfulness of a God who hears and sees and knows and provides and comforts. A God who doesn't change.

Fabulous, heart-felt resources for parents!

Thank you, Kim, for continuing to offer such fabulous and heart-felt resources to us parents! I was not raised in a Christian home and feel like I’m floundering in the dark trying to raise my children to know and love the Lord. Your emails and bible studies are my lifeline! You should write a parenting manual!

May God continue to bless you and your family abundantly!

You're in my head, sister!

I just wanted you to know that I LOVE your blog. I can’t tell you how much the homeschooling posts have meant to me. It’s like you’re in my head, sister!! Thank you so much for taking the time in your busy life to minister to struggling moms and making me feel as if I’m not alone.

My daughter loves it all!

I just want to write and let you know that my 13-year-old daughter loves, love, loves everything I have ever ordered from you and says that she wants your entire inventory of bible studies for her next birthday!

Thank you for making a positive difference in our lives!

Positive Impact in My Life

I've been following your blog for a couple years and I have enjoyed participating in your free bible studies/devotions as well as those I've purchased from you. I just wanted to let you know that you've made such a positive impact in my spiritual and home school life, as well as support and encouragement for motherhood. Thank you for being such a blessing to so many moms.
