About me

I’m  just a girl, crazy in love with Jesus.  I’m a single mother of 4, a passionate homeschooler and life-long student. After teaching 8 years in public school, I traded my M.A. in Early Childhood Education for sippy cups and homeschool co-ops. I lean toward classical education, but love to meld together the best of all homeschooling methods to meet the many needs of my children.

I’m a freelance writer, blogger and speaker who does a little of everything else on the side. I read non fiction for kicks and I hate coffee. I am passionate about marriage, writing, anything that contains the word cake and root beer. Um, yes, root beer. A girl has to have one bad habit, right?

When the fiery storms of my life started raging, I was desperate for resources to help me soak in HIS love for me.  This site was born out of my own experience with abandonment, betrayal, and life growing up with a single mom. My heart longs to encourage and equip women to walk victoriously through the fire. I believe that Jesus is the answer to absolutely every problem and I fully trust His plans for us.

In these pages, I tend to write about homeschooling, being a mom (whether single or not) and just about anything else that comes up as we walk out our faith on this earth. In addition to this blog, I have a facebook group to support and encourage single moms who are homeschooling: Home{schooling} Alone.

My prayer is that you will find encouragement, strength, and love in these pages. Stay a while and soak it in.

  6. Great website. Love it!

  7. Dear Kim, stumbled upon your website. Wow, uplifting. It is a very good thing that you speak so strongly for and honestly about marriage. You are a woman of conviction, praise the Lord! Quick question: the painting that is at the bottom of your webpages that says “deep roots at home”: do you know who did that painting (I assume it’s originally a painting and not a computer graphic)? It is really lovely. Thank you, and may God bless you and your efforts to inform and help others. And may the Lord do amazingly, abundantly more than you can ask or imagine!
    Sincerely, Eric E

  8. THANK YOU! Going on a year and a half of single parenting homeschooling mommy. I too am in Love with Jesus and know that all things work together for good even if its not good stuff happening right now. My six kids are all under the ages of 10 and we are growing through this trial by fire together. I look forward to reading!

  9. Hi Kim. I found your website in a desperate search to save my marriage. Sadly, I am the one who really messed up. My husband told me if it weren’t for the kids he would be gone. I misused credit cards and now we are in over our heads. My selfishness has led to lots of pain but not much hurts more than knowing I am the reason my family is falling apart. It is just another divide in the canyon that was already wide enough. Thank you for your website. It is my hope that through prayer and forgiveness and hard work, I will earn my husbands love and trust again. I pray it is not too late.

Oh girl, your honesty is so sweet. We all mess up though. Thankfully, we have a gracious and merciful Savior who forgives and never ever brings it back up. Praying for you!

  11. Hello Kim. Very blessed to have found your blog. You are a light in the darkness! I appreciate the encouragement as I seek to shine Christ in my home as well…lots of stuff to speak to me here; a real blessing :)

  12. Hi Kim,
I wanted to let u know that God used u in my life in a very personal way tonight. I randomly found u on Pinterest after having my quiet time and journaling the words, “Lord I’m in a battle and I need your help”. Within minutes I was on your website after following a link about free memories with kids. I have 2 little ones that I homeschool. I also have a husband who after 11 yrs of marriage, I’ve recently discovered has had over a dozen mistresses. This coming from a man raised in the church and with a very public platform of Christianity. Thankfully God has not allowed me to be consumed! However the issue of remaining committed and married to him is one that I wrestle with. I’ve come to realize that marriage within itself is a reflection of Christ and the church, and I am here to glorify God and not to have a happy, perfect marriage. I just want to commend you for sharing your story with the world to see. Your words are powerful and anointed. Thank you for letting God use your pain to minister to and encourage me.
