Have you wondered how to help your family
grow in faith…
even when life is difficult?
Hi, I’m Kim Sorgius and my number one desire is to help kids and families grow in faith so we will never feel consumed by life’s struggles.
My passion for helping families grow in faith is deep-rooted in a pretty messy life story, mercifully redeemed by our incredible God!
Having been one of the 66% of spiritually active teens who walk away from the church in their twenties, I believe God has called me to help kids and families avoid that same trap.
Working with kids has always been one of my favorite things to do, I volunteered in kid’s clubs, girl scouts, church groups, and pretty much anything involving kids. It’s probably no surprise that I graduated from the University of South Florida with an M.A. in Education, specifically curriculum design.
But after ten adventurous years in the public school system teaching Kindergarten through second grade, God redirected my plans. I took what I thought was a break to have my first baby. (Isn’t she adorable?)
Just a few weeks after she was born, I got the call that my nephew was going to be retained for the second time in his 3 year educational career, so I took matters in my own hands and began homeschooling him immediately. I’d seen the system fail one too many kids and it wasn’t going to happen on my watch again!
As they say, the rest is history. I fell in love with the power of homeschooling! By the time my own children were old enough for “school” we’d already been to multiple homeschool conventions and purchased a good bit of amazing curriculum.
In fact, I was so convinced that homeschooling was the best way to educate my children that I pushed through the incredible obstacles we faced just a few short years later when my husband left us behind.
Have you ever looked at your life and stood completely amazed at how God put together all of the pieces?
He took my degree, my passions, and my family’s needs and He put together this thing we call Not Consumed Ministries today.
Although I never would have imagined it this way, I’m a work-from-home fulltime mom who runs a business, homeschools her kids, and by the grace of God manages to feed them, too.
Don’t picture superwoman, because you’ll be missing the point. We have the privilege of serving families like you because God is so gracious to us. He has put all of the pieces together and gives us the strength we need to do what we are called to do each day.
And trust me when I say, I haven’t done any of it perfectly! I’ve felt the bitterness of betrayal and the loneliness of divorce. I’ve felt the overwhelm of single parenting and the fear of financial ruin. And I’ve sat helpless as my baby was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
But here’s the truth—>
The beauty of life isn’t found in perfect circumstances.
It’s found in faith.
BECAUSE GOD IS FAITHFUL…
I CHOOSE TO LIVE #NOTCONSUMED.
I’M A PRAYER-MAKER. JOY-GIVER. LIFE-CHOOSER.
And I would absolutely LOVE for you to join me!
One of our favorite things to do as a family is travel to various homeschool conferences each year to pour into homeschool families for the weekend. I love homeschooling my kids and creating resources from home, but getting to meet people like you in person and inspire other families to press on and trust the Lord through difficult circumstances excites me!
I’m honored to have been a consistent speaker for many of the national homeschool conferences including Teach Them Diligently, CHEC, FPEA, HEAV and more. I’d love for you to let me know if you plan on attending any conferences I’m speaking at!
WHY WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR YOU…
Writing on these pages and creating resources for you enables me to hold my children close when they need it most. It enables me to sit with my son through countless hours of chemo and hospital stays. It enables us to continue homeschooling, and most of all, it enables us to make memories together.
Because of you, my sweet reader and friend, my son can park cars on my back. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that.
But I also want you to know that every dollar you spend in our store helps even more families get into God’s Word together. Thank you for being a part of this ministry and helping us keep the cost of quality Bible studies and faith-building resources affordable!
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME
- On this blog, you won’t find the recipe for the perfect children. (you actually won’t find any recipes at all. Ha!) But, I do promise to share with you encouragement and support through my own failures and victories as a mom seeking to teach my children diligently. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
- I promise to show you real life and yet at the same time offer practical solutions for handling the messy situations as I learn alongside you.
- I promise to pray for you and your family as often as I think of you.
- While I will never tell you that I fully know the depth of God’s Word, I do commit to handling it with the utmost respect and taking very seriously my accountability before God when it comes to teaching truth accurately.
WHAT I BELIEVE
God is so much bigger than anything I could ever write on this page and I believe as Christians we are constantly growing and changing as we come to know Him better. But since it’s important to know the foundation of beliefs when you consider writing and materials to disciple your family, I wanted to share a glimpse into what I believe.
I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth.
Simply put, I believe the Bible is 100% true as inspired by God.
His promises are enough for every part of our lives.
I am forever grateful that I am saved from my own depravity through the grace of His son, Jesus and that every person on earth has that same opportunity.
I study and write using the KJV and ESV Bibles. However, my studies are written with the intent that children and families will look up Scripture in the Bible of their choice, with specific attention taken to assure questions can be answered from a variety of translations.
OUR FAMILY MISSION STATEMENT
I think every family should have a mission statement. After all, if you don’t have a vision for what you want your family to be like, how will you ever reach it? Proverbs 29:18 says, “where there is no vision, the people perish.” It’s critical we clearly define what our families are all about so we can help them identify with our principles and stand firm against those things that don’t fit!
But that doesn’t mean creating a mission statement has to be one more difficult thing on our to-do list. It can be simple, practical and effective… like ours!
