Have you ever wondered how to have daring faith when life is hard?
Hi, I'm Kim Sorgius and I've wondered that very thing as I've walked some of life's darkest valleys. I've felt the bitterness of betrayal and the loneliness of divorce. I've felt the overwhelm of single parenting and the fear of financial ruin. And I've sat helpless as my baby was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
But here's the truth--->
Despite what may have been intended for harm in my life, God has used every single moment for good, and He's not finished yet! I've learned to trust Him even when I can't see the good. Trust me when I say it's not easy, but I promise it's worth it!
BECAUSE GOD IS FAITHFUL...
I CHOOSE TO LIVE #NOTCONSUMED.
I'M A PRAYER-MAKER. JOY-GIVER. LIFE-CHOOSER.
And I would absolutely LOVE for you to join me!
Not Consumed Ministries was born out of my own struggle to find God faithful in the midst of the hardest moments in life. It's my greatest privilege to help Christian women like you dare to have the kind of faith they need to live #NotConsumed in everyday life by providing encouraging and practical resources for family, faith and homeschooling.
Not Consumed Ministries Core Beliefs
How this ministry began...
Often people ask me how I got started writing here at Not Consumed. I have to be honest and say it was never my desire to own my own business or even to minister to others through writing. For me, life has been none of what I planned and far too much of the things I worked so hard to avoid, hoping they would NEVER EVER happen.
I started Not Consumed Ministries on the couch of our foreclosed home with four children under 6 years old desperately looking to me alone to care and provide for them.
Looking back, I'm humbled and awed at how God coupled even the excruciating moments of my life with my 10 years of public school experience and that once-thought-wasted M.A. in Education/Curriculum Development as a foundation to create the many Bible studies, faith-building tools, and homeschool curriculum resources He has called me to develop for families seeking to trust Him no matter what life brings. As I tell my kids... isn't He incredibly, wonderfully, and awesomely good?
Writing on these pages and creating resources for you enables me to hold my children close when they need it most. It enables me to sit with my son through countless hours of chemo and hospital stays. It enables us to continue homeschooling, and most of all, it enables us to make memories together.
Because of you, my sweet reader and friend, my son can park cars on my back. I can't tell you how grateful I am for that.
What you can expect from me
1. On this blog you won't find the recipe for the perfect children. But, I do promise to share with you encouragement and support through my own failures and victories as a mom seeking to teach my children diligently. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
2. I promise to show you real life and yet at the same time offer practical solutions for handling the messy situations as I learn alongside you.
3. I promise to pray for you and your family as often as I think of you.
What I believe
God is so much bigger than anything I could ever write on this page and I believe as Christians we are constantly growing and changing as we come to know Him better. But since it's important to know the foundation of beliefs when you consider writing and materials to disciple your family, I wanted to share a glimpse into what I believe.
I believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture; in one God eternally existing in three Persons; in the creation of all things, including man, as the direct act of God; in eternally secure salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, and in His bodily resurrection; in the personal, bodily, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ and His millennial reign on earth.
Simply put, I believe the Bible is 100% true as inspired by God.
His promises are enough for every part of our lives.
I am forever grateful that I am saved from my own depravity through the grace of His son, Jesus and that every person on earth has that same opportunity.
I study and write using the KJV and ESV Bibles. However, my studies are written with the intent that children and families will look up Scripture in the Bible of their choice, with specific attention taken to assure questions can be answered from a variety of translations.
Our Family mission statement
I think every family should have a mission statement. After all, if you don't have a vision for what you want your family to be like, how will you ever reach it? Proverbs 29:18 says, "where there is no vision, the people perish." It's critical we clearly define what our families are all about so we can help them identify with our principles and stand firm against those things that don't fit!
But that doesn't mean creating a mission statement has to be one more difficult thing on our to-do list. It can be simple, practical and effective... like ours!
