As I was dusting off the Christmas boxes stacked high from the attic, I realized one thing that was missing. I’ve always been so intentional to make Christ the center of this season. I’ve gone out of my way to make sure that all activities point to the real reason for the season, so we don’t get tangled up in the materialism of it all. But this one little tradition was missing that Christ-centered approach.
It was our Advent calendar. (Technically, it’s just a Christmas countdown, since the most accurate definition of advent goes beyond the 24 days in December that we usually count down.) Each morning my kids rush out to open the calendar’s box. As they count down to Christmas, we add a new piece to our “nativity scene” and everyone gets a piece of candy. It’s one of the highlights of the year.
While it’s true that it is a nativity scene we are building, it’s also true that the focus is still pretty shallow. Well, this year, I want to change that. So I created a very simple printable that I could cut and place in the boxes. It would also be fun to make them into a paper chain that hangs next to the Advent Calendar. Whatever we decide, this year we will be sure we get into God’s Word every day as a part of the festivities. Want to join us?
Merry Christmas, my friends. I pray that this free printable helps you get into God’s Word this year, as I know it will bless you!
