  1. I think I know about all of these steps and they all make sense but having them spelled out really helps to reinforce these ideas. Step 2 is a new one that I will definitely be trying. I recently found your blog and I am learning quite a bit. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

  2. I am so Guilty of the barking! I am a loud mouth by nature anyway and is basically bc I worked with the elderly that were hard of hearing and I am really working on this bad habit bc I dont like doing this at all! Great tips and advice and going to do my best to put into practice! Thank You…

  3. I often throw in a choice for the child, if possible. I.e. Walking to the car in a parking lot.
“It’s time to go to the car, we have to hold hands. Do you want to hold my right hand (extend right hand) or my left (extend left)?”
the outcome is clear, hold hands, but the child still has input and learns about making appropriate choices at the same time.

    1. I try to do this when I can also. Give them options but only within the parameters that I set. In your example, holding hands is not negotiable but which hand to hold is!

  4. Could these tips also work for say…. your husband? Is there a verse that supports his commitment to his family and wife in helping with household work and parenting?

  5. What if your kids are new to the faith and weren’t brought up learning to obey as one of God’s children. Do you have any advice?

  6. HI Kim, I am a preschool teacher at a small Christian school and I have a child in my 3 year old class that refuses to obey, or comply with anything we do in school. I came across your blog today as I sought answers to help the parents and not just label this child or his parents. Thank you for all of your encouragement to parents and to teachers like me. I wanted to know if you could offer me any advice on how to speak to the parents and what resources I could point them to to help their child, we do have a meeting scheduled soon. Thank you!
