Back to School Activities Pack Printables
Make your back to school celebration fun with printable back to school activities like a scavenger hunt, word search and coloring pages. They will love it!
Back to school? Even as a little girl, I could hardly wait for morning.
‘Twas the night before third grade, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring . . . well, except for me. Hands down, it was one of the most exciting nights of the year. I laid there in my bed peering over at the neatly laid out clothes, brand new, of course, and the pile of shiny new school supplies. You could tell from the tossing and turning that I could hardly stand the wait to head back to school!
It’s funny how all these years later, I still get so excited about a new school year. Every. Single. Year. It’s such a wonderful time to celebrate new subjects, new milestones, new supplies, and new experiences! That’s why some meaningful (but simple!) back-to-school activities can be a great addition to any homeschool!
I make a point to celebrate the first day of school as I truly believe it sets a tone of excitement for the coming grade level. It’s part of how I think my children will view learning. If we get excited over the small stuff, we create memories that bring about the fond feelings I’m after. One of the ways that we do this is by creating new notebooks for the school year.
A few years ago, as I was hunting around for pages for our back-to-school notebook, I had trouble finding anything I really liked! I wanted something that was both fun and meaningful. I wanted a record of things that included their favorite book of the Bible, favorite verse, etc. So . . . I created something to make our back-to-school time EASY (Can I get an amen?!) and memorable.
Now, I’m passing it along to you because we mamas have to help each other out!
Back to School Activities Printables
All About Me
This page records the basics like your child’s favorite movies, TV shows, foods, and everything else they enjoy. But it also records their favorite Bible verse. We want to inspire not only their education but also their faith! What a great way to start the school year.
My Goals
On this page, your student will record their personal goals, like, “I really want to read 20 books this year!” It records their faith goals: perhaps, “I want to memorize Psalm 30 this semester.” It records their health goals, such as, “I want to drink 6 glasses of water EVERY day!” And it records their homeschool goals: “I want to finish my daily school work by 3 pm each day.”
When they get to the end of the school year, they can look back to see which goals they accomplished (and which ones need a bit more time or effort).
Field Trip Planning and Evaluations
I’ve also included a place for your family to brainstorm about field trips you’d like to take this year! This is such a fun activity. Dream a bit together about places you’d like to go and things you want to experience.
There’s also a form you can print out throughout the year as you go on various field trips. Use this form to record the trips and experiences you had! (Can’t think of field trip ideas? Check out this list from Joy in the Journey!)
Time Log
Use this page to keep up with the time it takes to do your various activities. Do you have a piano player in your homeschool? Keep track of how often he or she has lessons. Do you have an aspiring actor or actress? Keep track of how often they go to the theater.
Back to School Activities
Start your school year with some fun activities. I’ve included a back-to-school word search, scavenger hunt, and bingo game!
My kids LOVE racing through the house to find everything on the scavenger hunt list. We’ve even designed a version for your younger students!
Morning Checklist
I love a good checklist. And if your home is like mine, kids need some “encouragement” to get going in the morning.
This morning checklist gives them the direction they need to get up and going. Because we all sometimes need reminding to put on pants or brush our teeth.
Encouragement Cards
Finally, I’ve included a set of Bible verses to encourage you throughout your school year. Homeschooling can get rough on some days. We all need reminding that God is with us. He equips us. He sustains us. These cards give you some great memory verses for the entire family.
