Scripture on Promises When You Need Them Most

The good news is God gives us a lot of amazing promises in His Word. And He commands us to remember them. Let these Scriptures on His promises help you.

“I read the text message again and the knot sinks deeper into my stomach. My arms tingle with hysteria and tears invade like a vicious summer storm. After nearly 4 years of crashing waves, you’d think I could stand up in the safety and protection of my Savior, knowing that I’m in the “shallow end” of His peace.

But I don’t. I sink deeper under the waves and give in to the pressure of the circumstances. The tears stain. The words etch searing scars into my heart.

It’s a familiar place. The one I cling to when waves crash disaster onto all that I want to be “normal.” The place where my knees buckle weakly into the foam of despair and brokenness.

But it’s a desperate place of slavery—my personal Egypt. I’m much like those Israelites…clinging to the slavery of what is known (no matter what the cost) and forgetting the promises of my loving and merciful Savior. In the waves of the storm, I can’t see all that God has promised and I long for what was before.

Never mind that it was a false security…it still allures me with empty promises of stability.”

I read that old entry in my journal a few days ago. In some ways, it’s hard to believe how far I’ve come on this journey. And in some ways, it’s easy to see that I can slip back into that same place of not remembering.

Maybe I’m the only one, but I often find myself feeling a little discouraged about the circumstances of life. Sometimes it’s my own fiery trial. Sometimes it’s a little thing like dog poo in the living room or Captain Crunch ground into the carpet. Whether it seems like the daily life of motherhood is overwhelming or that life is unfair, we all need a promise.

The good news is God gives us a lot of amazing promises in His Word. And He commands us to remember them. Have you ever read the story of when those Israelite children crossed over the Jordan into the promised land? After all they had gone through, God asked them to specifically create a memorial so that they would never forget His promises. (Read Joshua 4.)

I’ve got to think that if it was possible for them to forget the parting of the Red Sea, the parting of the Jordan, the provision of manna every day, and the fall of the wall of Jericho, I probably have no chance of remembering His promises to me. I must write them down and read them often.

Scripture For When You Need A Promise

• Philippians 1:6 – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
• Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
• John 10:27-28 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Print out this verse to meditate on when you feel like giving up. Frame and place it in your house in a spot where you will be reminded daily. Put it in your purse. Hang it on your fridge–whatever it takes to remember the promises He has given you. If you aren’t struggling with this right now, just file it away for when you are. I know in my life, these kinds of feelings can creep up even when I least expect them.

I would suggest printing this verse on 8.5 x 11 cardstock as it will be more sturdy.
